Owning livestock is a key component of local economies and smallholder communities. Livestock provides cash, meat, milk, draught power and manure for crops. Goats are a sustainable option in locations such as Zimbabwe, where conditions such as drought and rising costs of animal feed are common problems. Goats adapt well to most environments, they are easier to work with than larger livestock and are cheaper to buy and maintain.
